Sexual preference is a supremely personal issue. I will preface this post by clearly stating that I, personally, could not care less on which side of the fence you stand. It is none of my business, just as my preferences are none of yours. It isn’t that I am not opinionated. It’s that I don’t care.
I do, however, care about freedom. Freedom of speech is one of the most sacred rights we enjoy here in the U.S.A. Your opinions and how you choose to express them are protected here in this country and I cringe at any attempt to censor that freedom. There are several perspectives on that freedom at play in the recent Duck Dynasy / A&E network fued.
A&E is a business. It has the right to conduct that business in any fashion they deem appropriate. Apparently, as a business, they have chosen to reject any voices that offer an opinion in opposition of their own. Tolerance, apparently, is not part of A&E’s business model. They promote what they “call” tolerance, but their definition is apparently limited to a narrow view of the world.
Phil Peterson also has freedom. He is free to think, believe, and speak however he wishes. That is his right. You don’t have to agree with him. In fact, you can disagree all you want. That is your right. His religion and his beliefs are also protected in this country. But, in recent years, it seems those traditional values are under attack along with our freedom of speech. Christianity, it seems, is the last available target for derision and ridicule.
Tolerance is far different from acceptance. The left constantly preaches tolerance, but only if it is tolerance of their views. If your views differ, you will find no tolerance in their company. It is one of the greatest scams of this generation. It is an overt attempt to change how people think. It violates the very idea of freedom.
You won’t find me shedding any tears for Duck Dynasty. I’m sure they will do just fine in their future endeavors. I’ve never watched the show so I truly don’t care what happens to it. A&E will also do just fine I’m sure. I don’t watch their network so, again, I don’t care. In fact, other than the indulgence in 24, Dr Who, and The Blacklist, I don’t watch much television at all. I find it disgusting, for the most part.
I do know that networks intentionally promote all things that are in opposition to what used to be considered “family values.” Their agenda is not very secret at all. They want you to think and believe exactly the way their shows project. The fact of the matter is that homosexuality is a minority practice among humankind. It isn’t difficult to acquire acceptance among the heterosexual population. It is very difficult to force a heterosexual population that homosexuality is right and good.
Stop trying! Stop forcing an agenda on people and the acceptance you desire would be easily won. As long as there is a concerted effort to force people to support your lifestyle, they will resist it. And, more than anything, the so-called champions of tolerance need to learn a little tolerance themselves.
By the way, if Peterson was a Muslim, none of this would be happening. It is only because he holds traditional Christian beliefs that he is being publicly “shamed” for sharing them.
