2016 is an election year for many offices across the country. Franklin County, Missouri, is lucky enough to have an interesting race for the office of Sheriff. You’ll remember Dan Page as the police officer who was suspended for shoving Don Lemon, a reporter for CNN, during the chaos in St. Louis following the Mike Brown shooting. He subsequently retired. You can read that story HERE. He was also the subject of one of my investigations after someone linked me to an Oath Keepers video in which Page makes all sorts of insane claims about conspiracy theories AND his own service record with the United States Army. You can read that article HERE.
Here’s the video, just in case you want to witness this madness for yourself. Yep, this is just the guy you want as your local Sheriff.
And, as if that isn’t bad enough, Page is apparently also some sort of sovereign citizen weirdo. You’ll recognize the “Sheriff is the highest authority in the county” rhetoric from various groups today including the Bundy Ranch lunatics who are now cooling their jets in jail as they await trial. Oddly enough, they were arrested by State Police and the FBI, not the ultimate authority-holding Sheriff’s office. Here is a quote from Page’s official campaign website:
The office of Sheriff belongs to the people; and is elected by the ‘People’ and the department belongs to the people! If elected Sheriff, I want to foster a climate of trust and faith between the citizens of Franklin County and the Sheriff’s Department. The office of Sheriff is the “Chief Law Enforcement Officer” of the County; and the only “Constitutional” law enforcement authority within the County. Franklin County Residents will have nothing to fear from outside agencies trampling on their United State Constitutional Rights. The United States Constitutional (American Citizens Birth Certificate) will not be abridged, there will be no Waco, Texas, Ruby Ridge, Idaho, Cliven Bundy Ranch or Burns Oregon events if when elected. “The dangers of a concentration of all power in the General government of a confederacy so vast as ours are too obvious to be disregarded…You have a right…to expect your agents in every department to regard strictly the limits imposed upon them by the Constitution…Liberty rests upon a proper distribution of power between the States and Federal authorities” Franklin Pierce, March 4, 1853, Inaugural address. (from www.wnd.com, 3-3-2016, by Bill Federer). No other agencies have the United States Constitutional authority to override the Sheriff’s authority. Furthermore, I’m a proven “Leader”, I have lead men that have been tried and tested on the battle field and we’ve been through the valley of death-and we have killed and we do not apologize Period! Like most veterans, I have faced the most chaotic, mass confusion imaginable and some of us have survived, yes, we are damaged. However, we can still continue our services to our Nation. There is a difference between a “Leader” and a Manager, with over 35 years in the United States Army service and 36 years and eight months as Police Service with the St. Louis County Police Department, assigned to the North County and North Central County Precinct. There will be a professional relationship with outside agencies. However, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department will remain “Constitutional” and autonomous from outside interference.
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people” United states Constitution 10th amendment. “Article 4, section 4 Reads in part: “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion”... This includes illegal aliens and so called Muslim refugees. – From SheriffDanPage.com.
I, of course, had pretty much forgotten about Page until, today, I received a nasty email from one of his supporters claiming I libeled the good candidate and I should apologize. The email included links to Page’s website, which, like a bonus, also contains PDF documents of Page’s military service record. WINNING! So, instead of making an apology, I’m proving even more irrefutably that Dan Page is a lying sack of shit and doing so with information Page provided himself. How bad does that have to suck for his fans?
As I had stated in previous pieces about Page, he was never Special Forces, Ranger, etc., and his military background is highly inflated. Now, in reality, Page had a satisfying career and most likely did a lot of good things, or at least had some fun along the way. Unfortunately, when compared to the various claims made by the former Sergeant Major, there are huge discrepancies. So, watch the video above and then compare his claims to the documents he himself provides. Judge for yourself. Screenshots of Page’s DD214 are below.
Of note: No Special Forces Tab, no Ranger Tab, no CIB, no CAB, no Purple Heart, and no indication Page saw any action whatsoever during his career. This is in stark contrast to his previous claims. On another page of Page’s page (sorry), he lists all of his official assignments during his military career. This is also oddly inconsistent with his video claims. I was wrong about one item and I will officially recognize that error here. Page does have airborne wings. There, I feel much better about it now.
Page lists his official military training on his website as well. Here is the list he provides:
CSM Page’s formal military schooling includes:
- Airborne School, Advance Infantry Course
- Armor Scout Reconnaissance Course
- Psychological Operation Course
- M60A3-AS1 B8 Course, Abrams M1 Tank Course
- Power Generation Course
- The Army Maintenance Management Course
- Instructor Training Course
- Drill Sergeant-Noncommissioned Officers Course
- Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course
- Advance Noncommissioned Officers Course
- First Sergeant School
- Command Sergeant Major Academy, class # 30
Missing from the list would be SF, Ranger, Sniper, etc.
So, the accuracy of my original article remains intact. Good luck, Fanklin County. Don’t forget to vote.
Sunday, Dan Page wrote a comment on his website in response to the many questions about his erroneous claims. I can assume this is due to an email exchange between one of his supporters, John Lilyea of ThisAintHell, and me that occurred over the weekend. Page and his campaign staff were CC’d on those emails. His comment follows.
Sunday, March 13, 2016: On my return from North Africa in 2011 I was invited to the “Have Bible Will Travel Church”, to speak before Church members, Oath Keepers and Police officers. It has been brought to my attention by a patriotic veteran that I stated that I was a “Green Beret” which is a lie. I am not a Green Beret. I did not realize that I had made such a claim, nor [do I know] what possessed me to make such a statement. I’m deeply embarrassed personally. I apologize to the church members, the Oath Keepers, Police Officers present and to all veterans and current members of the U.S Military. I take full responsibility for my action. It was not my intent to lie. I had no intention of deceit. I simply misspoke as a result of not having written notes for my speech but simply speaking off the cuff concerning numerous and various topics regarding my career which began in 1970.
His “acknowledgment of error” can be seen at the bottom of the page linked HERE.
I can sympathize with the good CSM. I tend to forget what job I held during my career. I mean, it happens all the time! Of course, I’m being sarcastic. Facetious, even. This “apology” is weak sauce and none of us are buying it.
